Pupil Voice & School Council

A group of children from all year groups make up the School Council. They meet with Mr Hilliam regularly to discuss school issues and make suggestions. January 2023 update: the children are voting on which of our 10 values to keep or change.

500 Words Competition:

St Augustine's 500 words Story Writing Competition Winners!

Well done to all of those children who took the time to write a story and send it to me before the lock down.  I was really impressed by the quality of writing and that so many of you had put the effort in to type and enter your stories. The more you practice your writing, the better you will get. So a special virtual high-five and handshake to Maahi, Sophie, James, Lillia, Megan, Jack, Martha, Abigail, Honour, Orla, Lois, Alessio and Rose. You are all star writers!

It was a very difficult decision and I would like to have given you all a prize!

The winner from each age category will receive a £10 book token in the post.

  • Key Stage 1 Winner: Maahi
  • Lower Key Stage 2 Winner: Jack
  • Upper Key Stage 2 Winner: Honour

If you would like to read their stories please see below attachments.

Congratulations and keep writing!

Children have been sharing their experiences of lockdown in creative ways. Here's a fabulous rap from a child in Key Stage 2

And another poem from a very poetic Key Stage 2 child (apologies...you'll have to look sideways)!

Thank you also to these other Key Stage 2 pupils for writing these incredible poems about lockdown:

Just stay home

Coronavirus - Spring 2020,
we’ve got loads on our hands.
Shutting down schools and shops,
that’s the Prime Ministers plans.

We can’t go out and eat in restaurants,
only takeaway.
Instead of going to the park,
we go in the garden and play.

Me and my family,
we’re all at home school.
I’m sad I can’t go and see my friends,
no - not at all!

Thank-you to all the NHS,
we love you all very much.
And all the other key workers,
giving our country a colossal crutch.
My feelings are all mixed up,
I don’t know what to do.
So, for now I’ll stay inside,
and I hope that you will too.

The Killer Coronavirus

Covid-19 is what they call you,

covid-19 hit us with a “BANG!”

Stay home, stay safe Boris sang.

Travelling now banned unless it’s essential,

toilet paper vanished,

care packages made available.

High risk and over 70’s must stay inside,

Wear masks and make sure you hand sanitize,

No traffic jams, no struggling to park,

Cafés closed, shops all dark.

Kids off school, homeschool with google classroom,

Brothers and sisters in the background, such a distraction.

No hugs or kisses, no shaking of hands,

Sty two meters apart, playing with friends is banned.

I miss my family, I bet you do too,

But staying happy and healthy is what we must do.

Protect our NHS and support key workers,

Thursday claps, saying “Hi” to the neighbours.

Community comes together during this global pandemic,

Our earth is happy again, clear waters, safe forests.

Lockdown is a drag I must admit,

But I love fun in the garden, swimming pool and the swings.

Long walks with my family on my daily exercise,

riding my scooter and learning to ride my bike for the first time.

I can’t see my friends but we do right letters,

Zoom calls and facetime make everything better.

Arts and crafts galore, lots of memories made,

Lockdown brings people together in the most incredible way.

Thankyou NHS and all the keyworks,

for saving peoples lives, and being our superheroes.

Thank you Mum for all you have done,

keeping us home, safe and happy when the world is so glum.
