PE and Sport Premium Funding

The Government provide PE and Sport Premium to most primary schools and the amount is dependent on the number of pupils currently in Years 1-6. The funding is given to support schools to make sustainable improvements to PE and sport. For example, schools might choose to increase the range of resources or sports on offer or to develop the staff skills or on site provision to benefit both current and future pupils.
The PE and Sport Premium funding is ring-fenced in that it can only be spent to develop and improve PE and sport within the setting. All schools are required to publish how the money has been spent and the impact that it has had.

At St Augustine of Canterbury Primary School, we are committed to using this funding to enhance our provision of high quality PE, both within and beyond the curriculum and to add to our existing resources. There are five key indicators against which schools can measure their improvements, which are:

1. the engagement of all pupils in regular physical activity – kick-starting healthy active lifestyles
2. the profile of PE and sport being raised across the school as a tool for whole school improvement
3. increased confidence, knowledge and skills of all staff in teaching PE and sport
4. broader experience of a range of sports and activities offered to all pupils
5. increased participation in competitive sport

At St Augustine of Canterbury Primary School, we want our pupils, upon leaving primary school, to be physically literate and to have the knowledge, skills and motivation necessary to equip them for a healthy, active lifestyle and lifelong participation in physical activity and sport.
PE and Sport provide our children with opportunities to develop the important qualities of self-control, determination, communication, team work and commitment. This should lead to improved concentration, attitude and achievement in all aspects of their personal development.
