Attendance

Attendance

Good attendance of around 96% for the Year is essential for a child to have covered an appropriate curriculum, minimising gaps in learning and supporting their potential. Irregular attendance can cause gaps in essential learning, children can feel inadequate and a loss of esteem ensues if they feel they’re lagging behind their peers. Holidays will only be authorised in exceptional circumstances and providing the pupil has good attendance for the prior 12 months. As a general rule, holiday absence is unauthorised in line with Government guidance.

Poor attendance does have a knock-on effect when it comes to performance in formal tests, informal assessments and can affect performance in later life if it continues.

Children experiencing vomiting or diarrhoea should stay home 48 hours after the last bout. Children who are obviously ill should not attend school, but if you are in doubt, please send them into school and we can contact you if their situation were to deteriorate. As a parent, you are legally responsible for making sure your child attends school regularly.

If your child is ill then please telephone the school office on 01454 866690 as early as possible.  There is an answer machine available for out of hours.  Please ensure you leave your child’s name, class and a brief description as to their reason for absence.

Severe Weather Notification

In the unlikely event that the school has to close due to poor weather, a decision will be taken by the Headteacher based on notifications received by essential staff as to whether the school can open even partially, according to safe staffing ratios.

Texts will be sent to parents informing them of a closure and the school will notify the Chair of Governors, the Local Authority and local radio.
